Concluding Sabbatical

It’s Thursday and I’ll go back to my 30-hour a week job on Monday. So I have few days left, sorta. But today is my last day of utilizing childcare and making the day my own. I wanted to make sure I didn’t feel about about how the sabbatical went, so I wanted to make note of some of the things I accomplished. This finished list is not the same as the initial hoped for list I had waiting for me six weeks ago.

  • I spent more times with my girls, utilizing child care only about half the time we typically do in a work week.
  • Made chicken and dumplings for the first time since we moved to this house in 2020
  • I’ve made it to my own adoration hour four of the six weeks
  • We have had so many doctors and dentist appointments including ZP’s first ever dental visit and subsequent cavity filling
  • Checked out the local Faith & Live bookstore for the first time
  • Measured, cut and added an extra shelf in my pots and pans cabinet in the kitchen (the holes were already available and I had to hardware and particle board on hand)
  • Took both girls to Acrobat Academy’s Mommy and Me open house for the first time
  • Helped with our parish’s annual Italian Dinner
  • Had a couple of play dates with other families
  • Took the girls sledding for all of 2 minutes in the 15 degree weather and snow
  • Research bookshelves, dressers, bunkbeds and couches a lot
  • Helped with the CGS Sacramental Retreat (what a gift!)
  • Had a 20-week sonogram and found out baby number three is a boy
  • Spent 2.5 hours at a kids clothing consignment sale with my sister-in-law and prepped / nested a little for baby brother
  • Finished the flower sprig for my spring welcome and hello door signs (a project I made fall and winter springs for about 14 months ago)
  • Sold our counter height dining table on facebook marketplace and replaced by buying one from a fellow parishioners estate sale.
  • Hosted a small double birthday party for both girls. Yummy cake as always.
  • Sold our sleeper sectional on facebook marketplace. New couch and recliner to be delivered next week.
  • Made mardi gras frosting for sugar cookies for women’s bible study.
  • Am helping out with the digital aspects of making our own parish directory
  • Am promoting our upcoming Lenten Parish Mission
  • Took the girls swimming with grandma at the Y
  • We bought a minivan. Phew. Didn’t think that one was going to happen for another couple of months.

I guess I can compare this list to the things I didn’t do that I thought I would get to.

  • Make the land of Israel and city of Jerusalem maps for the atrium.
  • Go visit people – the snow and a bout of RSV didn’t help with that.
  • Make this blog more of a focus. I think it’s still coming.
